Cosplay: Poppy from Trolls

For Halloween this year, Zelda said she wanted to be a butterfly but then 2 weeks before Halloween, she changed her mind and said she wanted to be Poppy from Trolls. I thought she’ll forget about it. She kept reminding me though, so 2 days before Halloween, I went to the fabric store to get material and started on her dress.

I used one of her dresses as a template. I pretty much eyeballed it. I left room for mistakes just in case. I didn’t sew the left shoulder so it would be easy to put on and I used velcro on each side to secure it. After everything was sewed up, I used white acrylic paint to draw the designs on the bottom. The flower crown was made from felt which I think was perfect since Poppy loves arts and crafts. I used a glue gun to secure the flowers to the headband.

With her dress and crown done, last part was the hair. I went to Sally’s the day before Halloween and of course, they’re sold out of pink color hairspray. All they had left was silver glitter, or black color hairspray. I got a can of silver glitter to use as a base and hopefully somewhere else had pink hairspray. While in line to pay though, I came upon a brand called Good Dye Young Poser Paste. Its a color paste that’s temporary so it washes off after showering. I didn’t want to spend the whole day looking for pink hairspray so I bought it. In the end, it works great (review coming up!) and Zelda loved it.

Her school doesn’t allow students to go dressed up so after she got home, I started changing her into her costume. For her hair, I applied the pink paste first and then created a messy bun, kinda pointy looking like Poppy. I used a little bit of the silver glitter spray for some sparkle in her hair. I applied just a little bit of pink eyeshadow on her cheeks and nose and with a white eyeliner pencil, I did some freckles. With pink pants and shoes to finish the look, she was ready for a night of fun. She was so happy with her outfit. I didn’t think anyone would recognized her but a couple of kids and parents did. She was all cupcakes and rainbows despite the cold night.

I can’t believe I whipped up her costume in such a short amount of time. I sometimes surprise myself. I love my kids so I’ll do anything for them even if it means sacrificing sleep =^.^=
