Every time I went blonde, I only stuck around it for a month. Having blonde hair is high maintenance and I honestly don’t like dedicating too much time on my hair. I’m a mom of two toddlers so I’m pretty busy. This time around though, I wanted to make the effort to stay blonde for a bit, maybe go a bit lighter, and keep it healthy.
I started looking around for a good purple shampoo to properly tone my hair. I decided to try the Fanola No Yellow shampoo.

This shampoo is super pigmented. I think it can possibly stain the skin if left on for a while. Luckily I didn’t have this issue since I applied the shampoo in the shower on wet hair. I’ve seen YouTube videos of people applying it on dry hair and leaving it on for 15 to 30 minutes on the hair and then washing it off. I decided to follow the instructions this time around and left the shampoo on for 5 minutes. I don’t think the smell is horrible but it does smell chemically. My hair still had the smell lingering even after leaving my conditioner on for 10 minutes.

Did it work? Yes it did but my hair felt dry, super dry. I noticed right away as I was washing it off, my hair was in rough shape. After leaving the conditioner on for 10 minutes and then a treatment after for another 10 minutes, my hair felt a little better but not by a lot.
So the Fanola No Yellow shampoo does tone the hair pretty well but it dries out the hair making it feel brittle. I’m not even sure I want to keep using it because of the harsh chemicals. They do have a vegan version that is sulfate, silicone, and paraben free that cost more but honestly, I rather spend a little more to avoid further damage to my hair. If I were to keep using it, I would have to follow up with a treatment after just to bring back the softness to my hair. More time on my hair, yay!!! (sarcasm).
Would I buy this product again? No I wouldn’t. I would like to try their vegan version though and find other healthier less damaging products on toning hair.
