It was time for another root touch up and I just thought, “why not go lighter”.
- Blond Brilliance Express 9 level bleach
- Blond Brilliance 25 developer
- Wella Toner T27
- Wella Toner T11
I mixed the bleach and developer (1:1.5 ratio) and applied this on my roots first. Once I did that, I applied the rest of the bleach on my ends. I left the first application on for 30 minutes. I washed it off after and my roots looked good but my ends were orange.
I did another round of bleach but only on my ends. I applied it on damp hair. Left it on for 30 minutes and washed it off.
Next was toner. I mixed Wella T27 and T11. Both of these are warm gold tones. I realized as I was mixing these together, I should have bought one cool toner and one warm toner. There was no turning back and I was curious what color I would get. I left this on for 20 minutes. It did help tone down the orange and yellow on my hair but it didn’t do much for my roots. If you notice in the picture, my roots are yellow still. I just had to wait until my hair was fully dry to see if it bothered me.
I liked how my hair came out. My hair just looks so different depending on the lighting. I wanted to tone down the yellow a little bit further though.
After washing it 2 times in 1 week and applying my DIY purple shampoo, the brightness toned down a bit which I liked better.
I did noticed though that my roots are a little yellow and don’t really match with the rest of my hair. The Wella toner didn’t help much and neither did the purple shampoo. It’s not really that noticeable and it didn’t really bother me but I know if I go even lighter (which I did later), and my black roots start growing out, I’m going to have to fix the yellow band. It’s so annoying because I don’t want to bleach it but I think I have to. I’m guessing since that yellow part isn’t that porous, it didn’t absorb the toner. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I know being blond is high maintenance but I want to keep it for a bit longer than a month. Maybe for the rest of the year? I don’t know, I might wake up and decide that I want purple hair. We’ll see =^.^=
P.S. I used the Fanola No Yellow Shampoo a week later which toned down the yellow even further and made my hair a bit ashy but it did nothing to my roots which were still yellow. So I had to bleach my roots in the end. That’s another blog post to explain the process =^o^=
