New York 🍎

I decided to treat myself to a weekend trip and bring along the spouse. We took a connecting flight which stopped in Indiana before landing at LaGuardia Airport. What was supposed to be a 3-day trip turned into a 5-day stay since we got grounded by the blizzard of the decade. Honestly, what fun!

Landed in New York on a Saturday morning, and it was the perfect day to check out Central Park. We stopped by Tavern on the Green for a cold brew and did some people-watching. I honestly thought we’d only be there for an hour, but three hours later we were exhausted and starving. Luckily, we found a super cute ramen spot.

I was a happy gal with a full stomach. I only meant to take a nap but I ended up sleeping the rest of the day. In the morning I woke up to a message on my phone. My Monday flight was canceled. I looked out the window and it was snowing. The earliest flight I can get was Wednesday. Texted work to let them know I’m stuck in New York. Got ready to start my day.

We spend the day exploring and checking out the main tourist attractions. Had to make a stop at the Nintendo Store of course.

Before checking out Time Square, we needed a brew break. A good way to warm the body. I was still playing PoGo while exploring the city. I joined a remote raid and I ended up getting a hundo. After drinking our beer, we made our way to Time Square. It was snowing nonstop and I was loving every minute of it.

The next morning, it stopped snowing but because of the amount of the snow that fell in the city, a lot of attractions and stores were closed. The plan today was to check out The Roosevelt island tramway. I was getting nervous it wouldn’t be open because of the amount of snow.

I got so excited and happy when I saw it was opened. We practically had the whole tram to ourselves. As we walked around Roosevelt Island, we enjoyed a white claw and did a little bit of PokémonGo catching.

We kept it pretty calm on this day. After the tram, we checked in to our new hotel, got food and settled down. The next morning was another day of exploring; The Statue of Liberty, Staten Island, The Oculus, Dumbo, Manhattan Bridge and The World Trade Center. This was the day we ended up doing the most. I was so tired but it was worth it.

Our last day in New York took us to Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park, and the New York public library. Such charm these places had. Before we made our way to the airport, we enjoyed a beer at Bryant Park.

That drink almost made us miss our flight, though! I was stressing out because we landed at LaGuardia but were flying out of JFK, and I’d never even been there before. I miscalculated the travel time. We almost hopped on the wrong subway, which definitely would’ve caused us to miss the flight. We ended up being the last ones to board and that’s on top of the flight being delayed already. It was a little embarrassing, but I’m just so grateful we made it.

My time in New York was so special and such an amazing memory. Getting caught in the blizzard of the decade was actually awesome. I loved every single second of it, but I wouldn’t want to live there. I’d absolutely love to go back and visit again during the spring or fall, though!
