I only wanted Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory for Christmas. I was going to buy it for myself. To my surprise, my friend Beto gifted me the game. I was so happy.
The Kingdom Hearts series is so special to me. I was only 14 years old when the first game came out back in 2002. Besides the remix versions, I’ve played all the games in the series so far.
I was very excited to play Melody of Memory because it was a music game. I love the music of the series and some songs bring tears to my eyes. It was so nostalgic to listen music from Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 because it’s been a long time since I’ve played those. The element of the game reminds me of the Dance Dance Revolution games but instead of playing with your feet, you play with your hands.
Each song you play has 3 stars. The stars are earned by completing the mission listed on the side of the star. In the beginning, I couldn’t get my mind and fingers to memories the buttons. So the first couple of songs were played in Beginner mode. Once I got the hang of it, I started playing the songs in Standard mode. Eventually by the end of the game, I think I was pretty good. Some songs I would play in Proud mode. When I would play my favorite songs, even in Proud mode seemed easy. I would even space out for a bit but my fingers still follow every beat.
As I progressed in the game, I would also unlock cutscenes that tells the Kingdom Hearts story. Even though it tells the story of the Kingdom Hearts universe, it’s a summary. Don’t expect it to go into deep details. My husband has never played a single game of the series. He watched all the cutscenes with me and he was still confused. Anyone can play this game but I think Kingdom Hearts fans would truly enjoy it so much more.
I passed the game and unlocked all the songs within a week after I started playing the game. I still play it and try to defeat my old scores. I’m somewhat a completionist so I will try to the best of my ability to get every star in the game. So far I have 306 out of 354.
Overall, I enjoyed the game since I am a Kingdom Hearts fan. I wasn’t excepting any surprises but since I didn’t play the DLC after passing Kingdom Hearts 3, I was pleasantly surprised they added those new cutscenes. So the game is up to date on where the series is currently at. So while I wait until a new Kingdom Hearts game comes out, remix, 2.5 or something, I’ll be enjoying this one. Catch me in the dark corner crying as I play Don’t Think Twice. Every time I play it, I’m crying 🤣
