I have been feeling the Christmas spirit so much this year. I usually stick to the same Christmas movies because they bring so much joy but I wanted to see something new as well. I didn’t realize how many Christmas movies Netflix had. After a little browsing, these were my picks. A little Christmas movie marathon.
The first movie I watched is Holidate. The story is about a girl and a guy that hate holidays so they decided to be each others dates on these special occasions. Will love blossom along the way? I enjoyed this movie and had a good laugh. The main guy reminded me of Chris Hemsworth since he kinda looked like him and spoke like him. I like Emma Roberts and she was so witty but cute. This film is not for kids. I started watching this and 5 minutes into the film, there’s a sex scene. Luckily my kids were busy playing Nintendo switch and they’re 4 and 5 years old so I didn’t have to explain what the hell was going on.
The next movie is called The Princess Switch. My friend told me about this one so I decided to give it a chance. It’s about a baker who goes to a foreign country to compete in a baking show and she runs into the princess of that country which happens to looks just like her. They switch places for a few days to experience a different lifestyle. This movie reminded me of Mickey Mouse The Prince and the Piper and The Parent Trap. Some parts were a little cheesy but it was still cute. Feels very ‘Disney’; so it’s a great family movie.
After I finished watching The Princess Switch, I continued with part 2, The Princess Switch, Switched Again. The baker and the princess switch places again but a cousin which happens to look just like them also decides to switch. I think I liked part 2 more. Now I understand why my friend has seen part 2 more than part 1. It’s such a cute Christmas movie. I think this series has become a favorite to play around the holidays.
Continuing with the Christmas cheer, I watched The Holiday Calendar. The story goes: a photographer feels her career isn’t going anywhere and her childhood friend comes back into town for the holidays but also to reconnect with her. Grandpa gives her an advent calendar which happens to have some sort of special history. The old advent calendar was adorable and I wish I had one. In the end of this movie, I cried a little because it goes to show how much a person would do for someone they deeply care about and love.
The last movie on the list is A Bad Moms Christmas. I know this is not a Netflix exclusive but it popped in my suggestion feed and I’m a mom so I wanted to watch it. It’s about a group of moms who try to enjoy Christmas with their families while dealing with their mommy issues. I don’t have mommy issues but I do know the stress that goes around Christmas time. Decorating and organizing is not easy. Moms put up with so much crap just to make the holidays feel special. This film was funny and sometimes raunchy but mainly funny. I wouldn’t watch it with kids though. Certain scenes are awkward and I wouldn’t know how to explain it to a kid without me sounding weird.
Overall, the Netflix Christmas movie marathon went well. I enjoyed every movie and I think it was a mixture of a little bit of everything. I’ll probably bust another Netflix Christmas movie marathon because there is so much to choose from.
