Comic Book Collector

Can’t believe I haven’t talked about my comic book collection. I’m close to owning 1,000 comics. How the hell did that happen and when? Well, let’s go back to the year 2022, when I decided to buy my first comic book, Star Wars: Obi-Wan. I think that’s when I decided to be open about my love for Star Wars.

It’s funny how I said that I was only going to collect the Obi-Wan series, which was only 5 issues long. That was a big lie. Before I bought the first issue of Obi-wan, my friend was lending me his Darth Vader 2015 series to read. Well, I did get all 5 issues of Obi-Wan and it left me feeling sorta empty. I thought, why not collect Darth Vader comics since he is one of my favorite Star Wars characters. As of now, I’m only 3 issue away in completing the 2015, 2017, and 2020 series.

Sometimes the cover art isn’t to my liking so I get a variant cover instead. Eventually I started buying multiple covers of the same numbered issue. Do I really need 7 copies of Darth Vader Black, White & Red issue 1? No I don’t but when the artwork is just so pretty to me, I gotta have it.

After Darth Vader comics, I decided to collect Doctor Aphra. Now I have comics of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Yoda, Darth Maul, and The High Republic. I bought my first Spider Gwen issue on a random comic book run. Now I collect Poison Ivy, X-men, Phoenix, Rogue, and Catwoman. I stopped limiting myself and just buy whatever catches my attention.

So many comics, not enough space. In the beginning, I kept my comic books inside my bookshelf but it started looking so unappealing. I ended up buying a comic bin to store them properly. I care every much for my comics so I also further protect them by putting them in new boards and bags. So far I have 4 long comic bins and for sure by the end of this year, I’ll be buying another.

If you’re wondering how is it I keep track of my comics, it’s by an app my friend suggested I download. Whenever I’m in doubt if I own a certain issue or not, I just open the app and check.

My comics are very dear to me and they’re not to be handled by anyone. Would I ever sell them? As of now, my answer is no. I’m not a reseller and even though I could, it was never my thing. I do know I have some rare gems and it’s exciting when I find out which covers hold such value. I might consider getting some graded later on in the future.

My comic books have brought me so much joy. I never thought collecting comics would become a hobby of mine but here we are. Not sure what I’ll do when I reach the 1,000 mark. I’ll probably buy a cake or spoil myself in buying a rare comic.
