Before reading the Ascendancy trilogy, my only knowledge of Thrawn was the comic books and from the show Rebels. I didn’t see him as a villain or a hero. My friend put it nicely: he’s an antihero. He was just different from other Star Wars villains. I got that from just the comic books and Rebels. Now after my knowledge of the Ascendancy trilogy, I fell in love with his character. He’s understanding, compassionate, honest but can be ruthless as well.

I knew Thrawn’s fate but it’s still sad how everything played out. He saved the Ascendancy yet he is punished in the worst way possible. His sole purpose is to protect the Chiss Ascendancy at whatever the cost and the cost was dearly.

He is more noble than any of those in the patriarchy. He sacrificed himself and took all the blame to protect those that were loyal and trusted him such as: Aralani, Samakro, Thalias, Cheri, and Ziinda.

One thing that stuck to me was when Jixtus asked Thrawn on how he was able to unite his enemies to go up against him. Thrawn’s response, with a sadness to his tone, was because they were the lesser evil this time.
